The Form of Solemnization of Matrimony
¶ At the day and time appointed for Solemnization of Matrimony, the Persons to be married shall come into the body of the Church, or shall be ready in some proper house, with their friends and neighbours; and there standing together, the Man on the right hand, and the Woman on the left, the Minister shall say,
DEARLY beloved, we are gathered together here in the presence of Yahweh (הוהי) the God of Abraham and all our forefathers, and in the face of this company, to witness the union of this Man and this Woman in the covenant of holy Matrimony. Marriage which is an ancient and honourable covenant, instituted by our Lord and God Yahweh (הוהי), beginning with the creation of Eve for Adam to signify unto us the same mystical union that is betwixt Yahweh (הוהי) and us his people. This holy estate Yeshua our Messiah adorned and beautified by the performance of his first miracle at the wedding feast in Cana of Galilee, and is commended of Saint Paul to be honourable among all men: and therefore is not by any to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly; but reverently, discreetly, advisedly, soberly, and in the fear of God. Into this holy covenant this man and woman come now to be joined by the our LORD Yahweh (הוהי) into an inseparable union of flesh and spirit that may not be broken by any man, except by the law of Yahweh (הוהי) given to Moses and reaffirmed by our Messiah Yeshua, lest they who transgress shall feel the curse of God Almighty. If any man can show just cause, why they may not join themselves together, let him now speak, or else hereafter for ever hold his peace. ¶ And also speaking unto the man and woman who are to be married, he shall say, I REQUIRE and charge you both, as ye will answer at the dreadful day of judgment when the secrets of all hearts shall be disclosed, that if either of you know any impediment, why ye may not join together in this sacred and divine union of Holy Matrimony, ye do now confess it. For be ye well assured, that if any persons are joined together otherwise than as God’s Law doth allow, their marriage is not lawful or recognized by God and shall bring the sure and swift punishment to them by the Lord on the day of his judgment .
( Name) WILT thou have this woman to thy wedded wife, to live together with after God’s ordinance in the Holy Covenant of Matrimony? Wilt thou love her, comfort her, honour her, and keep her in sickness and in health so long as ye both shall live? Does thou acknowledge that thou has read and understood the laws of Yahweh (הוהי), as given to Moses, concerning the responsibilities and duties of a man to his wife and children. Does thou agree to abide those laws of Yahweh (הוהי), concerning the covenant of marriage betwixt a man and his wife?¶ The Man shall answer, I do.
¶ Then shall the Minister say unto the Woman, ((Name) WILT thou have this man to thy wedded husband, to live together with after God’s ordinance in the Holy Covenant of Matrimony? Wilt thou love him, comfort him, obey him, and keep him in sickness and in health so long as ye both shall live? Does thou acknowledge that thou has read and understood the laws of Yahweh (הוהי), as given to Moses, concerning the responsibilities and duties of a wife to her husband and children. Does thou understand that God’s law as given to us through Moses, is binding on you and this covenant of marriage and that no other person other than your husband may alter, change, or relieve you of your obligations under the Holy Covenant created here today and that you shall be bound by your vow in this world and next until the final judgment of our Lord? Does thou agree to abide those laws of Yahweh (הוהי), concerning the covenant of marriage betwixt a wife and her husband? ¶ The Woman shall answer, I do. ¶ Then shall the Minister say,
Who giveth this Woman to be married to this Man?
¶ Then shall they give their troth to each other in this manner. The Minister, receiving the Woman at her father's or friend's hands, shall cause the Man with his right hand to take the Woman by her right hand, and to say after him as followeth.
I (Name) take thee (Name) to my wedded Wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God's Holy Law ; and thereto I plight thee my troth.
I (Name) take thee (Name) to my wedded Husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love, to cherish and to obey, till death us do part, according to God's holy ordinance; and thereto I give thee my troth.
¶ And, before delivering the Ring to the Man, the Minister may say as followeth.
BLESS, O Lord, this Ring, that he who gives it and she who wears it may abide in thy peace, and continue in thy favour, unto their life's end; through Yeshua our Lord and Messiah. Amen.
WITH this Ring I thee wed: In the Name of the Lord God Yahweh (הוהי), and of Yeshua our Messiah, and of the Holy Spirit of the Lord. Amen.
¶ Then, the Man leaving the Ring upon the fourth finger of the Woman's left hand, the Minister shall say, Let us pray.
¶ Then shall the Minister and the People, still standing, say the Lord's Prayer.
OUR Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive, those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
¶ Then shall the Minister add,
O ETERNAL God, Creator and Preserver of all mankind, Giver of all spiritual grace, the Author of everlasting life; Send thy blessing upon these thy servants, this man and this woman, whom we bless in thy Name; that they, living faithfully together, may surely perform and keep the vow and covenant betwixt them made, (whereof this Ring given and received is a token and pledge,) and may ever remain in perfect love and peace together, and live according to thy laws; through Yeshua our Lord and Messiah. Amen. ¶ The Minister may add one or both of the following prayers.
O ALMIGHTY God, Creator of mankind, who only art the well-spring of life; Bestow upon these thy servants, if it be thy will, the gift and heritage of children; and grant that they may see their children brought up in thy faith and fear, to the honour and glory of thy Name; through Yeshua our Lord and Messiah. Amen.
O GOD, who hast so consecrated the state of Matrimony that in it is represented the spiritual marriage and unity betwixt Christ and his Church; Look mercifully upon these thy servants, that they may love, honour, and cherish each other, and so live together in faithfulness and patience, in wisdom and true godliness, that their home may be a haven of blessing and of peace; through the same Yeshua our Lord and Messiah, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit ever, one God, world without end. Amen. ¶ Then shall the Minister join their right hands together, and say,
Yeshua our Lord and Messiah has charged us concern a marriage made betwixt a man and a woman and he said, “For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what Elohim (God) has joined together, let man not separate.” Mat 19:5-6 ¶ Then shall the Minister speak unto the company.
FORASMUCH as N. and N. have joined themself together in holy wedlock, and have witnessed the same before God and this company, and thereto have given and pledged their troth, each to the other, and have declared the same by giving and receiving a Ring, and by joining hands; Let it be known from this time forth that they are Man and Wife, In the Name of the Yahweh (הוהי) our God, and of Yeshua our Lord and Messiah, and of the Holy Spirit of God. Amen. ¶ The Man and Wife kneeling, the Minister shall add this Blessing. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, bless, preserve, and keep you; the Lord mercifully with his favour look upon you, and fill you with all spiritual benediction and grace; that ye may so live together in this life, that in the world to come ye may have life everlasting. Amen.
Certain Laws and words of Yahweh (הוהי) the Almighty God (Elohim) of Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and all our forefathers, concerning the Covenant of Marriage betwixt a man and his wife and the sanctity thereof throughout all the assembly of true believers. Gen 2:23-25 And the man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. This one is called ‘woman,’ because she was taken out of man.” For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, yet they were not ashamed. Gen 3:16 To the woman He said, “I greatly increase your sorrow and your conception – bring forth children in pain. And your desire is for your husband, and he does rule over you. Gen 17:10-13 “This is My covenant which you guard between Me and you, and your seed after you: Every male child among you is to be circumcised. “And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall become a sign of the covenant between Me and you. “And a son of eight days is circumcised by you, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with silver from any foreigner who is not of your seed. “He who is born in your house, and he who is bought with your silver, has to be circumcised. So shall My covenant be in your flesh, for an everlasting covenant. Gen 20:3-7 But God came to Abimelek in a dream by night, and said to him, “See, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.” However, Abimelek had not come near her, and he said, “Yahweh (הוהי) would You slay a righteous nation also? “Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she, even she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and in the innocence of my hands I have done this.” And God said to him in a dream, “Yea, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart, and so I kept you from sinning against Me. For this reason I did not let you touch her. “And now, return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and let him pray for you and you live. But if you do not return her, know that you shall certainly die, you and all that are yours.” Exo 22:16 “And when a man entices a maiden who is not engaged, and lies with her, he shall certainly pay the bride-price for her to be his wife. Lev 18:20 ‘And do not have intercourse with the wife of your neighbour, to defile yourself with her. Lev 20:10 ‘And a man who commits adultery with the wife of another man, who commits adultery with the wife of his neighbour: the adulterer and the adulteress shall certainly be put to death. Lev 20:22 ‘And you shall guard all My laws and all My right-rulings, and do them, so that the land where I am bringing you to dwell does not vomit you out. Deu 21:15-17 “When a man has two wives, one loved and the other unloved, and they have borne him children, both the loved and the unloved, and the first-born son is of her who is unloved, then it shall be, on the day he makes his sons to inherit his possessions, he is not allowed to treat the son of the beloved wife as first-born in the face of the son of the unloved, who is truly the first-born. “But he is to acknowledge the son of the unloved wife as the first-born by giving him a double portion of all that he has, for he is the beginning of his strength – the right of the first-born is his. Deu 21:18-20 “When a man has a wayward and rebellious son who is not listening to the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and who, when they have disciplined him, does not listen to them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his city, and shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is wayward and rebellious. He is not listening to our voice, he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Deu 22:28-29 “When a man finds a girl who is a maiden, who is not engaged, and he seizes her and lies with her, and they are found out, then the man who lay with her shall give to the girl’s father fifty pieces of silver, and she is to be his wife because he has humbled her. He is not allowed to put her away all his days. Pro 23:12-14 Bring your heart to discipline, And your ears to words of knowledge. Do not withhold discipline from a child; If you beat him with a rod, he does not die. Beat him with a rod And deliver his being from the grave. Deu 24:1-5 “When a man takes a wife and shall marry her, then it shall be, if she finds no favour in his eyes because he has found a matter of uncoveredness in her, and he shall write her a certificate of divorce, and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house, and if she left his house and went and became another man’s wife, and the latter husband shall hate her and write her a certificate of divorce, and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house, or when the latter husband dies who took her to be his wife, then her former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her back to be his wife after she has been defiled, for that would be an abomination before Yahweh (הוהי). And do not bring sin on the land which Yahweh (הוהי) your God is giving you as an inheritance. “When a man has taken a new wife, let him not go out into the army nor let any matter be imposed upon him. He shall be exempt one year for the sake of his home, to rejoice with his wife whom he has taken. your God is giving you as an inheritance. Deu 29:29 “The secret matters belong to Yahweh (הוהי) our God , but what is revealed belongs to us and to our children forever, to do all the Words of this Law. Pro 29:15-17 A rod and reproof give wisdom, But a child unrestrained brings shame to his mother. When the wrong become many, transgression increases; But the righteous look on their fall. Discipline your son, And he brings you rest and delight to your life. Tit 2:1-6 But you, speak what is fitting for sound teaching: the older men are to be sober, serious, sensible, sound in belief, in love, in endurance, the older women likewise are to be set-apart in behaviour, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of what is good, in order for them to train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, blameless, workers at home, good, subject to their own husbands, in order that the word of Elohim (God) is not evil spoken of. Likewise urge the young men to be sensible. Rom 7:1-3 Or do you not know, brothers – for I speak to those knowing the Law – that the Law rules over a man as long as he lives? For the married woman has been bound by Law to the living husband, but if the husband dies, she is released from the Law concerning her husband. So then, while her husband lives, she shall be called an adulteress if she becomes another man’s. But if her husband dies, she is free from that part of the Law, so that she is not an adulteress, having become another man’s. 1Cor 7:1-17 And concerning the matters you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. But because of whoring, let each one have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. Let the husband render to his wife what is her due and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another except with agreement for a time, to give yourselves to fasting and prayer. And come together again so that Satan does not try you because of your lack of self-control. And I say this as a concession, not as a command. For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from Elohim (God) , one in this way and another in that. And I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am, but if they do not have self-control, let them marry, for it is better to marry than to burn. And to the married I command, not I, but the Master: A wife should not separate from a husband. But if she is indeed separated, let her remain unmarried or be restored to favour with her husband, and let a husband not send away a wife. And to the rest I say, not the Master: If any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she thinks well to live with him, let him not send her away. And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he thinks well to live with her, let her not send him away. For the unbelieving husband has been set-apart in the wife, and the unbelieving wife has been set-apart in the husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are set-apart. And, if the unbelieving one separates, let him separate himself. A brother or a sister has not been enslaved in such matters. But Elohim (God) has called us to peace. For how do you know, O wife, whether you shall save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you shall save your wife? Only, as Elohim (God) has distributed to each one, as the Master has called each one, so let him walk. And so I order in all the assemblies.
1Cor 7:34 There is a difference between a wife and a maiden. The unmarried woman is concerned about the matters of the Master, that she might be set-apart both in body and in spirit. But she who is married is concerned about the matters of the world – how to please her husband.
1Cor 14:34-36 Let your women be silent in the assemblies, for they are not allowed to speak, but let them subject themselves, as the Law also says. And if they wish to learn whatever, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in an assembly. Or did the word of Elohim (God) go out from you? Or did it reach only to you? Eph 5:22-33 Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Master. Because the husband is head of the wife, as also the Messiah is head of the assembly, and He is Saviour of the body. But as the assembly is subject to Messiah, so also let the wives be to their own husbands in every respect. Husbands, love your wives, as Messiah also did love the assembly and gave Himself for it, in order to set it apart and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, in order to present it to Himself a splendid assembly, not having spot or wrinkle or any of this sort, but that it might be set-apart and blameless. In this way husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but feeds and cherishes it, as also the Master does the assembly. Because we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. “For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This secret is great, but I speak concerning Messiah and the assembly. However, you too, everyone, let each one love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she fears her husband. Col 3:18-21 Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands, as is proper in the Master. Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them. Children, obey your parents in all, for this is well-pleasing to the Master. Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. Pet 3:1-7 In the same way, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that if any are disobedient to the Word, they, without a word, might be won by the behaviour of their wives, having seen your blameless behaviour in fear. Your adornment should not be outward – arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on dresses – but the hidden Man of the heart, with the incorruptible ornament of a meek and peaceable spirit, which is of great value before Elohim (God) . For in this way, in former times, the set-apart women who trusted in Elohim (God) also adorned themselves, being subject to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him master, of whom you became children, doing good, and not frightened by any fear. In the same way, husbands, live understandingly together, giving respect to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the favour of life, so that your prayers are not hindered. |
